Dear Amara: New to the tribe.net scene, just now found your reply to my post THANKS! Can't believe how little response I've gotten. Hope you come into a big happiness on the big island with lots of faerie friends, I plan to come to the big island next year and hope to see you and your friends, probably in the Puna area. Peace and love, Emmett aloha too

Queer Scene in Kailua-Kona
Mon, June 20, 2005 - 12:46 AMI just moved to Kona about a month and a half ago. The Big Island has one--yes, one--gay bar--the Mask Bar. Luckily, it's on the Kona side. Having moved here from San Fran, it's been a major change and the adjustment is going slowly. But, I've met some really nice people so far. Other than the bar scene and the occassional obviously queer tourists, the community seems pretty small and/or underground. -

Re: Queer Scene in Kailua-Kona
Thu, June 23, 2005 - 10:43 PMTodd: Thanks for your response. I've had very little response to this question...none from Kauai at all! I think the missionaries did the Polynesian coolness in and it will take a lot of gay aloha to bring it back. I wish you the best. Plan to visit the big island next year for more research. Aloha, Emmett -

Re: Queer Scene in Kailua-Kona
Tue, June 28, 2005 - 12:17 AMWell, Kauai is pretty remote and rural--the garden island, you know. Maybe they don't have internet access. Ha ha.
Like someone said above, if you need a bigger gay scene, stick to Honolulu. It's just like any major city--on a tropical island in the middle of the Pacific, that is. -

Re: Queer Scene in Kailua-Kona
Sun, July 3, 2005 - 2:18 PMHey Todd: Well, I think I don't need a bigger gay scene. I spent plenty of years in SF and it's pretty quiet in BErkeley, where I live now. I'll keep investigating. I want to be with the faeries, and I think the most faeries live on the big island. It's all a process. If you are really into the radical faeries, please do let me know of the scene. I'm coming over to stay in Puna next year for a visit. Merry meet...peace and love, Emmett
