Ok, as of January we are moving from SF to Hawaii. We are a gay couple been together 20 years, and our 3 cats. We expect to make the jump first then have the cats shipped later. We are a High Tech couple, needing DSL in the apartment and a software/internet related job would be nice. As we are still in SF it would be nice to know of some online resources that might help us in all directions.

which island are you moving to? you might want to check out craigslist.org- honolulu has postings for all the islands...if you are coming to big island of hawaii,
the local newspaper here is www.hawaiitribune-herald.com
also the big island love tribe is a good place for networking...

Thanx for the paper link, good resource that, local information sources. And CraigsList is a staple here in the Bay Area, the local listings are 10 to 100 fold that of other areas. And just joined the big island love tribe.
I wish I could devote all my time to getting ready to go to Hawaii, but this time of year there are allways events happening, and being who we are, we are busy helping to facilitate social events for the next few weeks. Community does'nt happen by itself, somebody has to cook and answer the door for guests.

Mon, December 19, 2005 - 9:09 PMhere's a little more info on the islands....I have lived in Maui, Kauai and Bigisland....all of which are vastly different!!! if you still want to have the city element but live on the islands, Honolulu, Oahu is the biggest urban area... Maui is my favorite island as it has a semi-urban feel and i was able to find work as an event producer, artist/performer there....
Big island has been challenging for me in the realm of creating abundance, but the cost of living here is less than on all the other islands....So maybe you should do some island hopping and get a feel for yourself before making the choise on where to live....

Tue, December 20, 2005 - 9:47 AMI have to honestly say that we have no idea WHAT island would be good for us, as we are making a life-change and not just a location-change. With the life we have now we live in the heart of the city, and we know that we don't want this all over again, so we are open to whatever the islands want us to live like. This is a Grand Adventure, so we will just go with the flow and see where we go.
I have been finding alot of resources on the net, but they all seem to be geared towards somebody recieving money from me for them to tell me that 'Island Life Is Great', so far my advice is to avoid the comercial websites that offer help, they only want to help you out of your money. So the search goes on...I do want to than everybody who comes up with a crumb of advice, people advice is worth more than commercial advice any day.
